The Post-Racial Candidate.. ..Throwing Grandma Under the Bus

   Speaking for the "Purple People".....

today was a sad day.  The day that Barack Obama became the "black" candidate, forced to choose between "disowning" his own "community" (read black heritage) and Rev. Wright, or his white heritage (read Grandma).  He chose the to go where his votes are... as if he really had any choice, and throw Grandma under the bus.  Grandma had  the "audacity" to confide that sometimes she's afraid of black men in the neighborhood.  Isn't that basically what Jesse Jackson admitted several years back after the "Hymietown" incident, when he noted how sad it was for him to have to say that he was being followed down a dark street and was relieved to turn around and discover that its was a just couple of white boys?   Yet somehow Grandma's private mutterings were placed on equal "racial" footing with the tirades of Rev. Wright.
Despite any policy differences one might have with the Senator, there was a part of us that wished so-called "post-racial" politics might find its voice in him.  How dissappointing to find that the lure of political victory has lead Obama down a path that's not only not post racial, its not even post-Dr. King.
For those of us that are not entranced by the mantras of either aisle.. well... we still have hope.
